INDEPENDENT PEST INFORMATION
Wasp activity and nest enquiries in Shrewsbury
Describe the activity and location from a safe distance. Identification and the need for any intervention should be assessed rather than assumed from a few insects nearby.

Describe the location and pattern
Say whether insects are entering a particular point repeatedly or are simply visible around food or garden plants. Record the building or outdoor feature involved and when you noticed the activity. Avoid approaching a suspected nest to inspect or photograph it.
A description such as “repeated entry near the eaves above a rear door” is more useful than an unconfirmed species name. You do not need to expose the nest or work out its size before asking a professional question.
Identification comes before a treatment decision
Bees, wasps and other insects can be confused. Explain what you have seen and let a competent person assess uncertain identification. The BPCA guide discusses the differences and notes that not every wasp nest requires treatment.
This site does not instruct visitors to spray, disturb, seal or remove an active nest. Where activity affects access, tell the appointed contractor about the location and ask how it should be assessed. An enquiry here does not provide immediate attendance or medical help.
Access is part of the scope
Mention whether the suspected location is near a doorway, within a roof area, on an outbuilding or at height. Ask the contractor how they will assess and access it and whether special access costs are included. Do not climb to supply additional detail.
A picture taken safely may help explain a location, but it does not confirm the species, whether a nest is active or the work required. Do not turn an online photograph into a treatment specification.
Treatment and physical removal are different questions
Ask exactly what the quotation covers. A proposal may distinguish assessment, a treatment decision, a later review and physical nest removal. Do not assume that every item is included under the phrase “wasp nest removal”.
Clarify what happens if the finding differs from the original description or if the location cannot be accessed as expected. Ask who explains aftercare, any precautions and whether further attendance would be separately charged.
Compare the written terms
- Is identification or an initial assessment included?
- What location and access assumptions does the price use?
- Does the scope include treatment, removal, follow-up or only some of these?
- What happens if the concern is identified as something else?
- What instructions and contact route will the contractor provide?
Seasonal information needs context
Activity can vary with weather and the colony’s stage. A calendar alone cannot establish whether a particular site needs intervention. Use the linked BPCA advice for background and a property-specific assessment for the actual decision.
